Everyone who I asked (8 students) for the genre of my magazine said that it fell in the rock/metal category, which is my actual genre of my magazine. One person stated that “the name ‘riff’ also helps to guess the genre”.
Most of the students (6 out of 8) guessed the correct age range for my music magazine (16-18) which means that I was able to promote the age of my target audience correctly through my magazine.
“it was consistent with the other pages”, “I liked the layout of the left third” and “the main image is strong and decisive”.
Some features students liked best about my contents page were; “The writing looks conventional and professional”, “I like the layout of the thumbnail images” and “the layout is fantastic, great use of images, texts and colours”.
Some features that students liked best about my double page spread were; “The headline – the bold red colour reflects the genre”, “The solid main image” and “The main heading; it’s bright and bold”.
As you can see from these comments, I can say that I have used a create range of well taken photographs that are all clear and eye catching, and that I have used a consistent colour scheme and my use of text looks very professional.
Some features that students didn’t like about my front cover were;
“The mast head could be larger” and “The black and white photo looks good but then it needs more colour on the cover lines”. This shows that I need to improve on my colour scheme a bit.
Some features that students didn’t like about my contents page were;
“The pose on the top three photos are the same” (only comment) which shows that I could have put more effort into thinking about my models posing.
Some features that students didn’t like about my double page spread were;
“There was some blank space” and “The main image on the front cover was not the main image on the double page spread” which shows that maybe I should have kept to the same story.
All the students I asked apart from 2 said they would buy my magazine for the chosen sale price, and the other two said that the price should be higher.
